Dear Educators,
We have six amazing productions to serve your students and create educational experiences to enhance your classroom. Our season includes Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, a chilling adaptation of the novel for grades 9-12, the holiday classic A Christmas Carol suited for grades 5 and up, a spirited and fun adaptation of Mo Willem’s Elephant and Piggie’s “We are in a Play!” geared toward Pre-K-2nd grade (performed at the Richard and Nancy Donahue Academic Arts Center), Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, an intimate and powerful story of Billie Holiday for grades 10-12, Reduced Shakespeare Company’s The Comedy of Hamlet (a prequel) for grades 10-12 and What You Are Now, a Lowell specific story that examines the lasting impacts of the Khmer Rouge for grades 9-12.
Seats are $10 and include a professionally written study guide and post-show talkback. Teaching artists are available to prepare your class in advance, if requested. We also have limited half-price tickets and full scholarships through our Partners in Education program.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

When Gerald and Piggie get together, anything is possible. They might get invited to a fancy pool costume party, learn a crazy new dance, or decide to spend the day skipping and playing ping-pong in silly hats. These two pals and their devotion to each other through ups and downs will remind you of how good it feels to put friends first. Recommended for grades Pre-K to 2nd.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill

The Comedy of Hamlet, a prequel

Nothing is rotten in the state of Denmark as young Hamlet leaps into action to save the nunnery with Ophelia and Yorick the jester. A fast, funny, and physical extravaganza filled with scary ghosts, wee Scots, singing nuns, and a mysterious vassal in the castle. The Reduced Shakespeare Company returns to MRT to take an irreverent dive into the greatest play ever written. Recommended for grades 10 and up.

Pia is a passionate young Khmer researcher investigating new ideas about how to heal the mind from traumatic memories. Her interest is deeply connected to her family’s history. When a figure from the past shows up, urging Pia’s mother to testify about her experiences during the violence of 1970s Cambodia, unresolved histories are brought to the surface. Recommended for grades 9 and up.
