First Rehearsal: IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

When you get hired as an artistic director, everyone thinks the most important question is “what are you going to direct first?” But, really, I think, the most important question is “what’s the first thing you’re not going to direct?”

Here at MRT, we’re making a renewed commitment to using, supporting and developing Boston area artists – so for my first non-directed show, I hired the best director in Boston: Megan Sandberg-Zakian.

If you haven’t read, she recently won the Princess Grace award

so, it’s fair game to begin to call her Princess Megan when she’s in the building.

Today she started work on It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

which no lie, I laughed all thru the read thru and then cried at the end.

So charming, so emotional – the quintessential American holiday story.

I wanted to share some of the beautiful sketches that our costume designer Lee Viliesis has been working on.  (see below, and then wish you were dressed by her.)

For a show that is already selling out houses, this promises to be THE holiday event in Lowell and the greater Boston area.
