KEVIN KLING
Kevin is very excited to bring “Unraveled” to MRT after its co-production premier at the Contemporary American Theater Festival this past summer. Adding to over forty years of collaborations with his friend Steven Dietz and more recently, the brilliant Rob Witmer, the three brought “Best Summer Ever” to the MRT in 2023. Kevin’s plays have been produced by The Guthrie Theatre, Seattle Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse, The Sydney and Perth Arts Festivals, Spoleto USA, Actors Theater of Louisville, the Goodman, The Children’s Theater, The Denver Center Theater Company and Off Broadway at Westside Arts and Second Stage Theater and many others.
Commissions include the Minnesota Orchestra, the Zeitgeist Ensemble and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Kevin has received the Whiting Award, an NEA Grant, a McKnight Fellowship, a Bush Fellowship, and two Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Awards.
As a storyteller Kevin has toured the US, Europe, Australia and Thailand. He is a frequent performer at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN. Kevin has written five books, produced seven CD’s, and has performed often on PBS and NPR’s “All Things Considered”. In 2014 he was named the Minneapolis Storyteller Laureate by Mayor RT Rybak.
His most recent productions are Invisible Fences, with Gaelynn Lea, and Scarecrow on Fire at the Illusion Theater. He makes his home in Minneapolis with his dear wife and business manager Mary Ludington, three Cornish Rex Cats, a Basset Hound, a Dales Pony and a Mustang.
ROBERTSON WITMER
Rob Witmer is a composer, sound designer and musician from Seattle, WA. Previously at MRT, Rob was seen Best Summer Ever and composed the music for A Christmas Carol. His music has been featured in several world premieres, including Dracula: Mina’s Quest (ACT Theatre); Black Beauty, Red Riding Hood (Seattle Children’s Theatre); Murder on the Links, Peril in the Alps (North Coast Rep/Laguna Playhouse, 2022) and Kevin Kling: Unraveled (Contemporary American Theatre Festival). He has also composed music for regional productions of The Lehman Trilogy, The Seagull, The Tempest and Enemy of the People. Rob has been seen recently in performances of Go, Dog Go • Ve, Perro Ve! at Chicago Children’s Theatre and the Kennedy Center. Other recent projects include Fancy Dancer (Seattle Rep); Pirates of Penzance (Seattle Opera); and Localities (Spectrum Dance Theatre). Rob is a member of the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association and United Scenic Artists.
